Delight over disability workers' 'sleepover' win
A Levin disability worker who sparked a four-year legal battle over pay for "sleepover" shifts is overjoyed that a $150 million settlement has been confirmed.Health Minister Tony Ryall announced yesterday that the Government would contribute $117.5m towards a settlement for 3700 disability support workers, with disability provider IHC funding the rest.The Government contribution includes $90m towards phasing in minimum wage rates for affected workers by July 2013, and $27.5m in back pay.The settlement is the…

Mosgiel woman wins 'historic' Supreme Court case against ACC
The Supreme Court has upheld a Mosgiel woman's ACC appeal in a strongly worded landmark decision concerning fitness for full-time work.The decision, in favour of Karen McGrath, came after three years of unsuccessful appeals.It amounted to a "judicial dressing down" by the highest court in the land of the way the lower courts had handled the case and of ACC's approach, said Dunedin lawyer Peter Sara, from Mrs McGrath's legal team.
