Kiwis told of implant poison risk
About 500 Kiwis have been told their metal hip replacements may be poisoning them.The "metal-on-metal" implants were withdrawn from the worldwide market in September 2010 after they recorded a higher than expected failure rate.Tiny metal fragments were found to be breaking off and leaking into the blood, poisoning it.

New figures reveal work kills 1000 a year
Work is killing a 1000 of us a year.New figures, which also show there are 17,000 new case of work-related disease in New Zealand each year, have been revealed by the Labour Department as it rolls out a new plan to reduce the statistics.The Occupational Health Action Plan has 21 initiatives focused on reducing occupational cancer, respiratory hazards, noise, skin irritants and stress and pressure.

Rape crisis hotline gets last-minute funding reprieve
A sexual abuse helpline threatened with closure has had a last minute reprieve after the Government decided to continue its funding.The eleventh-hour victory comes on the day when funding was due to run out for Auckland Sexual Abuse Help, New Zealand's only 24-hour rape crisis hotline.ACC cut funding for the helpline in 2009. It has since been funded by the Ministry of Health, the local DHB, the police, and the Ministry of Social Development.
