Teen driver who smashed into tree had no licence

Well apart from the usual concerns about 13- 15 yr olds out after midnight committing crime instead of being safely at home; amazement that the kids parents were unaware of their whereabouts and activities.

The cost to the motoring levy payer of this "teenage escapade" must already be fairly substantial.

Should the driver be convicted of driving a stolen vehicle will ACC as is required by law stop paying for his rehabilitation and treatment?

I hope so!

What about the other young kids? What happens if they are charged and convicted of getting into a stolen vehicle? Will ACC "benefits" ie treatment, rehabilitation cease as well?

I hope so!

Then I guess that treatment and rehab costs will then fall on all the taxpayers evenly in that the local DHB & the Education department will be responsible for ongoing rehab costs and the provision of special equipment if required.

Sux eh!

matthew-purchase.jpgOn a much more positive note it was truly enlightening to see the story of Matthew Purchase on Close up and the progress that he has achieved after a serious head Injury.

When Matthew Purchase left New Zealand it was in a special air ambulance.

He was paralysed and couldn't even lift his head.

Matthew had been shot by accident at short range while out rabbit hunting in the Waikato.

He had come from England for his big OE, the trip of a lifetime as it turned out, it brought him very close to death.

Doctors said, even if he survived, he might not walk, talk or hear again.

But, just over a year on, and Matthew has shown them what sheer determination can do.
